We plan on using the Y a lot now that we’re members. My wife is a stay at home Mom and we have 3 kids (8 / 5.5 / 3.5) so she’s gonna have a fullllll summer.

Thanks for the mention of the marathon runner! She STARTED on a treadmill before she lost the 130 pounds. So, you have made the first steps in training for YOUR marathon, Jen ! (Psst — She told us called during the race so her kids’ voices would keep her from quitting…. —cue mom’s tears…..)

I am thinking “The Camping Avila’s Boot Camp” during the summer. Get a $20 tent at Walmart, make it Adventure Camp in the back yard, and once a week or so teach a camping skill to get ready for the time you REALLY can go camping. Google for kid’s camping (or summer) activities.

Tell Evan that if he rubs two sticks together it will make fire. You won’t see him until August !!!!

Thanks for the reassurance that we are not alone in this extended summer nightmare… ;)

I like the idea of camping practice. Plus they have already asked to go live at the library so I am sure we will be there often.

We have a YMCA membership that the fam gets to use more than I do. The pool area has a large shallow section with waterworks for the kids to play in. Our summer entertainment consists of the Y, the library, various parks around town, and the Wii. With occasional jaunts to the comic book store and the front yard. I must also say, the freezer is often an improperly used and under appreciated portion of the kitchen. While we’re in the kitchen, want to cook without heating up the whole house? Appliances like the George Foreman grill and the Pizzazz pizza oven are *not* specialized devices. Use them for everything!! If it must bake, the Pizzazz will bake it, from chicken strips to casseroles. If it must fry, the Foreman will do it, or close the lid and it becomes an oven. Grill outside when possible, and use tinfoil to turn your grill into an oven for large casseroles or to bake bread. You’d be surprise the difference it makes in your house temp and energy bill!

Winston! You are brilliant! (And you live like we do which makes you even cooler!) Thank you very much for your input.

We don’t have a pizzazz pizza oven yet. I have seen those at Target before though not since Christmas. Aren’t they really expensive? We do have a Foreman grill but it is one of the tiny ones. I would say our biggest heater upper is the oven. I may have to try to use the tin-foil-on-the-grill thing
